Vestibular Rehabilitation
Elizabeth Dannenbaum, physiotherapist

Ms Dannenbaum is a practicing physical therapist holding an appointment as a clinician and a researcher at the McGill University teaching hospital, the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital. As well, she is a lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine with an appointment in the School of Physical and Occupational Therapy.  Ms Dannenbaum earned her B.Sc.PT in 1985 and her M.Sc. in Rehabilitation Science in 1988 from McGill University.

After practicing in a number of clinical positions in both Israeli hospitals (Jerusalem, Haifa, Tel Aviv) and in Montreal hospitals in Montréal, Ms Dannenbaum has developed an exceptional expertise in vestibular disorders and she now specializes in vestibular rehabilitation in the Jewish Rehabilitation Hospital Vestibular Rehabilitation Clinic. She is also a researcher in the Posture and Gait laboratory of the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Rehabilitation of Greater Montreal.

Ms Dannenbaum is the co-author of a number of research publications and research grants. She is a member of several task forces, notably the Vestibular Hypofunction CPG Knowledge Translation Taskforce and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Vestibular EDGE Task Force where she works to establish best practices and knowledge transfer in the field of vestibular rehabilitation.

Ms, Dannenbaum has taught vestibular rehabilitation techniques to clinicians in Montreal, Quebec City, Tel Aviv and Hong Kong. Her extensive knowledge of modern therapeutic techniques has been appreciated by many professionals.

  • 08H00 Introductions and welcome to the course
  • 8H30 – 9H30:  Introduction to vestibular rehabilitation and common vestibular pathologies
  • 9:30 – 10:30: Review of the anatomy and physiology of the vestibular system
  • 10:30 – 10:45: Pause
  • 10:45 – 12: 00: Clinical vestibular assessment: Theory and practice: ocular motor screen, static and dynamic balance
  • 12:00 – 13:00: Lunch
  • 13:00 – 14:00: Review of the vestibular assessment: clinical interpretation
  • 14:00 -15:00   Introduction to vestibular treatment:
  • 15:00 -17:00   Practice session for treatment techniques
  • (case histories given to groups of 4 participants
  • (Groups present case to the class)

 

November 10

  • 08H00 Refreshments and greeting
  • 8:30 – 9:30: Overview of Vestibular Rehabilitation Issues.
  • 9:30 – 10:30: Introduction to Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
  • 10:30 -10:45: Pause
  • 10:45 – 12: 00: Demonstrations of the Dix Hallpike and roll test maneuvers and practice
  • 12:00 -13:00: Lunch
  • 14:00 -15:00:  Theory and practice on repositioning maneuvers for the treatment of posterior and horizontal canal Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo
  • 15:00 -17:00:  Review with case histories of Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo and vestibular hypofunction.
  • 17H00 Session end – distribution of materials
